The first sequel in Disney’s series melding toys and video games, the 2.0 Edition of Disney Infinity gives gamers the chance to take control of characters from the famed comic book publisher Marvel. Players once again set collectible plastic figurines (sold separately) on a special Infinity Base in order to play as popular characters, this time helping The Avengers prevent Loki from freezing New York City, joining Spider-Man as he tries to thwart Green Goblin’s evil plans, and battling in outer space with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The core mechanics of Marvel Super Heroes remain the same as the original, with players placing one or two figurines on the Infinity Base to enter a particular Play Set and adding Power Discs to provide special weapons or powers. However, this version offers much larger environments to accommodate special abilities like flight, and for the first time in the series, some characters are playable in multiple Play Sets. Each character is designed to offer a different set of abilities, and as gamers level up they can use the new skill trees to unlock additional attacks and signature moves. None of the figurines from the original Disney Infinity will work in this version’s Play Set mode, but they will all work in Toy Box mode, with all of their stats intact.
The Toy Box mode in Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes has been reworked to make building unique worlds easier, with new brushes designed to automatically create scenery and templates for including mini-games. Toy Box mode also features certain characters who can generate entire worlds, the ability to create and decorate interior areas for the first time, and new Toy Box Games discs that let players create games based on a variety of genre archetypes.
